Overview of iron vanadium

Ferrovanadium is an alloy composed mainly of two metals, vanadium and iron. The vanadium element accounts for about 50-60% in the alloy, which is one of the metals with high strength, high corrosion resistance and high melting point. The iron element forms a body-centered cubic lattice, which makes the iron vanadium have good machinability and plasticity.

Physical properties of iron vanadium

The density of iron vanadium is about 7.2g/cm3, and the melting point is between 1300-1350℃. Because iron vanadium has a high melting point, it can still maintain good strength and stability under high temperature environment. In addition, iron vanadium has good processing properties and can be processed by various processes such as forging, casting, welding, etc.

Chemical properties of iron vanadium

Iron vanadium has good corrosion resistance, especially for sulfur, phosphorus and other elements. In the oxidizing environment, a dense oxide film is formed on the surface of iron vanadium, which can effectively improve its corrosion resistance. But in reducing environment, the corrosion resistance of iron vanadium will be affected to some extent.

Production method of iron vanadium

Ferrovanadium is mainly produced by electric furnace smelting. This method is to purify the vanadium bar and other metals together into an electric furnace, through heating to melt, and then through chemical reaction and cooling crystallization, and finally get a vanadium alloy.

The use of iron vanadium

1. Iron and steel additives: iron vanadium is widely used in steel manufacturing because of its excellent physical and chemical properties. It can significantly improve the strength, corrosion resistance and high temperature properties of steel. In the fields of construction, automobile, railway, etc., the application of iron vanadium to strengthen steel has become very extensive.

2. Chemical industry: In the chemical industry, iron vanadium is mainly used in the production of various vanadium containing chemicals, such as ammonium metavanadate. These chemicals are widely used in glass, ceramics, coatings and other fields.

3. Aerospace: Because iron vanadium has high corrosion resistance and high melting point, it also has important applications in the aerospace field. For example, in the manufacture of rocket engines, iron vanadium can be used as a superalloy to make key components.

4. Electronics and electrical: In the field of electronics and electrical, iron vanadium is used in the manufacture of various electronic components, such as resistors, transformers, etc., because of its good electrical and thermal conductivity.
